The biggest door in Townsville

Leda has supplied, installed and commissioned its largest door yet for construction company Laing O’Rourke at the new port facilities in Townsville in North Queensland. The quad bifolding door goes up or down in approximately 90 seconds and is 19mtrs wide by 14.5mtrs high.

Drive though dimensions of 19mtrs x 13.5mtrs. The door is clad in colourbond with an overall weight of 8000kg. Townsville is a cyclone region and the required wind loadings presented as one of the greatest project challenges at 266km/h and a servicable wind load of 166km/h. While timelines ended up being extremely tight, Leda’s installation crew scraped in the door in on time.

Structural engineering and final commissioning of the door is expected in early August 2011. Leda also supplied a number of track gates for the site through local contract Wiltrading who installed and commissioned the gates.

The site is world class port to service the local marine fleet and Leda are proud to have participated in such an important development in North Queensland as the region continues to grow.
